From “a single seed” to “ten thousand mu of golden fields”! SanTai, Mianyang, has enjoyed a bountiful harvest of rapeseed seed production.

On May 11, a reporter visited the 1,000-mu rapeseed seed‑production base of Mianyang Teyan Seed Industry Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Teyan Seed Industry”) in Santai County and observed that the company’s self‑bred variety, Teyan You 700, boasts plump pods and tightly packed seeds. Farmers bent low in the fields, wielding sickles as they hurried to harvest.

“This year, the Te Yan You 700 variety planted at our base has grown far beyond expectations, with measured yields exceeding 200 kilograms per mu. In some high‑yielding plots, yields have even surpassed 250 kilograms per mu—more than 30 percent higher than conventional varieties. Its oil content is around 50 percent, and every 100 jin of seed yields an additional five jin of oil compared to ordinary rapeseed. Both quality and yield are outstanding!” According to Chen Jinlong, General Manager of Te Yan Seed Industry, Te Yan You 700 combines key advantages such as high yield, high oil content, lodging resistance, and strong resistance to Sclerotinia stem rot. It is well suited to the major production areas of the Yangtze River Basin and represents the culmination of the company’s more than ten years of dedicated research in rapeseed breeding.

As a leading domestic enterprise in rapeseed research, breeding, and seed production, Teyan Seed Industry specializes in the propagation of hybrid rapeseed. Currently, the company operates a seed‑production base spanning over 6,000 mu in Santai County, where it has developed more than ten proprietary varieties, including Teyan You 700, Dadi 802, and Jinyou 99. With an annual output of approximately 700 tons of high‑quality seeds, the company can meet the sowing needs of 4 million mu of farmland. Its seeds are marketed throughout the upper, middle, and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, as well as in Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang, and are exported to countries such as Russia, Pakistan, and Kazakhstan, bringing “Santai Superior Varieties” to the global market.

“Te Yan You 700 suffers from few pests and diseases, delivers high yields and a high oil‑extraction rate, and comes with comprehensive technical guidance throughout the entire growing cycle!” This year, He Xin, a large-scale farmer in Jun’an Village, Xinlu Town, Santai County, planted 120 mu of Te Yan You 700. Gazing at his bountiful rapeseed harvest, he couldn’t hide the joy on his face.

In Santai County, there are many farmers like He Xin who have increased both yields and incomes by relying on superior rapeseed varieties and enterprise‑provided technical services. Through a “enterprise–base–farmer” development model, Teyan Seed Industry promotes high‑quality, high‑yielding rapeseed varieties to a broad base of farmers, offers complementary standardized cultivation techniques, and helps local farmers expand their production of high‑yielding rapeseed.

According to reports, Santai County, a major national base for rapeseed seed production, is leveraging leading enterprises such as Teyan Seed Industry to continuously advance rapeseed breeding innovation, technological upgrades, and industrial integration. The county’s rapeseed planting area remains stable at approximately 680,000 mu, with total output projected to reach 150,000 tons by 2026.

At present, Santai County has established 27,000 mu of rapeseed seed‑production bases. “Santai‑bred” rapeseed seeds are supplied to 22 million mu of rapeseed cultivation nationwide, accounting for more than one-tenth of the national total.

The SanTai County Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs stated that it will continue to prioritize the revitalization of the seed industry, develop more high-yielding, high-quality, and stress-resistant new rapeseed varieties, promote green and efficient cultivation techniques, and extend the rapeseed processing value chain. By doing so, it aims to shift the rapeseed industry from “growing well” to “selling well” and achieving higher profitability, turning the humble rapeseed into a “golden seed” that boosts farmers’ incomes and a “flower of prosperity” for rural revitalization.
