Now is the golden season for rapeseed planting, and fields across Mianyang are bustling with agricultural activity. While conventional rapeseed cultivation is in full swing, seed production efforts are also gaining momentum, laying a solid foundation for next year’s abundant harvest.

On November 10, reporters at the 1,000-mu rapeseed seed production base of Mianyang City Special Research Seed Co., Ltd. in Santai County saw rotary tillers shuttling back and forth, tilling and preparing the land, while workers meticulously transplanted tender green seedlings. The scene was a bustling and orderly agricultural landscape brimming with vitality.

“The variety we’re planting is our specially developed ‘Te Yan You 700,’ a truly ‘powerhouse’ variety!” said Chen Jinlong, the company’s general manager. After years of intensive research and field trials, this variety boasts an outstanding oil yield—producing five extra pounds of oil per 100 pounds compared to conventional rapeseed—and its oil quality is superior and healthier. At the same time, it exhibits strong disease resistance and broad adaptability, making it suitable for cultivation in the main production areas along the Yangtze River basin.

This year, at its seed production base covering over 6,000 mu, Tech Research Seed Industry has not only planted Tech Research You 700 but also simultaneously cultivated more than ten self-bred varieties, including Dadi 802, Jin You 99, and Long You 666. All these varieties boast core advantages such as high yield, high oil content, and strong stress resistance. “These are truly the fruits of the researchers’ hard work!” Chen Jinlong revealed that the planting progress at the base has already reached 80%, and the remaining 20% will be transplanted within the next week.

The frontline of scientific research and breeding is equally bustling with activity. At the company’s rapeseed research and breeding base, staff members are carefully recording and verifying transplanting information; in the smart climate-controlled greenhouse, rows of seedling racks are brimming with thriving young rapeseed plants. “We need to keep pace with changes in cultivation practices and market demands, and select varieties with higher oil content, better quality, and broader adaptability,” said Chen Jinlong as he moved among the seedlings, carefully observing the crops’ growth.
